Multi-Zone Heating: Royal Air Force Air Defence Radar Museum

Commercial Heating Case Study

The Royal Air Force Air Defence Radar Museum, Norfolk

The RAF Defence Radar Museum is a large complex run by manager Chris Morshead and a team of volunteers. Housed in a concrete building, it provides a focal point for the heritage of the RAF air defence of the UK. It also holds a significant collection of artefacts and memorabilia. With lots of open rooms, the building was consistently hot in the summer and cold in the winter, due to the fact that the complex used outdated convectors with no control.

The lack of control over their heaters and very high running costs, called for an immediate solution. One insightful museum visitor recommended Ducasa heating as a solution. After being contacted, Ducasa visited the museum to demonstrate the heat options available, for which they received an excellent rating for presentation on their survey of the site.

Eventually, an Avant DGP multi-zone heating system was chosen, as it offered controllability of individual heaters, and different programmes could be set for the multiple areas that would be used on varying days. The Ducasa team personally measured and worked out the required wattages to ensure the cold buildings would have sufficient heat. Consequently, the installation was carried out easily and no problems arose.

” The team at Ducasa visited me on-site and gave an informative presentation and explained the options available to me. I decided to use the Avant DGP radiators because of the flexibility of the individual control. “

The benefits were immediately noticed. The museum experienced savings of up to 40% in running costs and the heating solution Ducasa provided offered flexible control as well as value for money. The products ordered were all delivered on time, and manager Chris found the ordering service to be straightforward and easy. Under the supervision of a volunteer electrician, the team members were able to install all of the radiators themselves because of Ducasa’s patented ‘Quick Fit’ design which made
the installation straightforward and simple.

” Using Ducasa, I can set the programmes to heat different areas of the museum as I need to. We don’t always need to use all of the rooms on the same days and with this system I can have complete control of which heaters are on, on whatever day or time of the week I need them. I have calculated the savings on our electricity to be around 40% a year since we began using the Ducasa Avant radiators. “

The ultimate controllability offered by Ducasa means that the museum will not only save money in future but maintain a consistent heat setting for the general public to enjoy, in both summer and winter. The excellent quality products and customer service that Ducasa provided impressed the museum staff, who insisted that they would happily use Ducasa again for their heating solutions.
